(HARTFORD, CONN. WTIC)-Connecticut State Police will be conducting DUI patrols and on waterways as part of an effort to protect the public this Labor Day weekend.
The DUI patrols are already underway through 11:59 Monday, with all 11 troops participating. Waterway patrols will canvass lakes and rivers.
“With the lifting of many Covid-19 restrictions and with a great weather forecast, we do expect traffic to
be heavy during the three-day holiday weekend. Drivers are asked to remember that arriving safely should be
their number one priority,” noted Colonel Stavros Mellekas, commanding officer of the Connecticut State
Police. “Please plan for plenty of time to reach your destination. Expect traffic delays, proceed with caution and
remember that obeying the rules of the road is everyone’s responsibility.”
State Police also remind residents that if you drink, please designate a driver. Additionally drivers should obey the Move Over Law: if you approach emergency vehicles that are stationary or traveling at slower speeds on the shoulder or breakdown lane, reduce your speed and move over one lane.
Last Labor Day weekend Connecticut State police investigated one fatality and 238 accidents, two with serious injuries. They also arrested 17 drivers and handed out 156 speeding tickets.
