CT troopers respond to over 200 accidents this Labor Day weekend

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—Connecticut State Police responded to more than 200 vehicle accidents during the Labor Day weekend, including one that involved a serious injury and two that involved fatalities.

Between 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 3 and 6:00 a.m. Monday, September 6, state troopers responded to 209 accidents of which they investigated 194, officials said.

According to state police, one of the fatal crashes occurred in Meriden between Friday night and Saturday morning. The second fatality involved a dirt bike and USPS collision in Bethany Saturday afternoon.

Over the holiday weekend, police also made 26 DUI arrests and issued 220 speeding tickets as well as 13 tickets for seatbelt violations.

In total, troopers issued 223 traffic violations, including unsafe lane changes and driving too closely to other vehicles.

The State Police Department had 3,591 calls for service during the holiday enforcement detail.
