(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)- A measure before lawmakers would pave the way for criminal offenders to re-enter the workforce, prohibiting discrimination by public and private employers, landlords and institutions of higher learning.
Supporters argue that criminal offender who have served time and have been rehabilitated can return to society and be productive citizens.
Tanya Hughes, the Executive Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities says that can be accomplished through a balancing act. It considers the nature of a person's conviction history, the length of time that has passed since the offense and the nature of the job available.
The measure received a public hearing before the Labor and Public Employees Committee.
