HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—The State Department of Public Health (DPH) is warning residents that COVID-19 vaccination appointments scheduled for Monday or Tuesday may be cancelled due to a major snow storm passing over Connecticut.
In a statement released Sunday, officials stated that vaccine providers may be forced to cancel vaccination appointments scheduled for Monday and possibly Tuesday due to the snow storm.
Earlier Sunday, the department instructed all vaccine providers to contact all individuals whose appointments will be cancelled to provide them with instructions for rescheduling, according to officials.
DPH officials are also urging those with appointments scheduled for the beginning of this week to reach out to their provider and to check on the status of their appointments, if the provider has not reached out already.
With the severe weather anticipated to make travel both difficult and dangerous, DPH officials said the storm could impact deliveries of the vaccine to the state's providers.
"The State is making every effort to facilitate the transport of the vaccine to avoid further disruption to appointments scheduled for this week," officials said in the statement.
Governor Ned Lamont has implemented a ban for certain tractor trailers in the state.
However, the order excludes those tractor trailers that are providing emergency pandemic-related supplies, including vaccines and testing supplies.
The governor has also extended the state's Severe Cold Weather Protocol through noon Wednesday. The protocol, which ensures Connecticut's most vulnerable populations are protected from the severe weather conditions, was originally set to expire Monday.
Along with that, Lamont has directed the State Emergency Operations Center to remain activated to respond to conditions from the severe winter storm and all executive branch state office buildings to remain closed to the public on Monday.
