(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-A virtual vigil remembered the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting eight years ago, attended by Connecticut's Governor, two Senators and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz.
The vigil was sponsored by the group CT Against Gun Violence. It says more than 150 Connecticut lives were cut short by gun violence in the past year.
Twenty children and six adults were shot and killed at the Sandy Hook School in Newtown.
Senator Chris Murphy says, "We're trying to rattle the moral conscience of our colleagues, to make them understand every day Congress does nothing we our complicit in crime after crime after crime."
Senator Blumenthal echoed Murphy's sentiments. "We can adopt these common sense measures by keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people. Whether it's universal background checks, emergency risk protective orders, safe storage, a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines. These common-sense steps are achievable."
Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz says in the last decade 2, 056 Connecticut residents have died from gun violence.
The vigil included the readings of the names of the students and educators killed at Sandy Hook.
