(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-Both the Office of Consumer Counsel and CT A-A-R-P are weighing in on comments made by the CEO OF Eversource that the costs associated by storm Isaias will be borne by Connecticut ratepayers. The remarks were made to industry analysts. The amount is estimated at around $240 million, according to Acting Consumer Counsel Richard Sobelewski.
He says his office recently filed what they think the penalties and improvements needed by the utility should be.
Sobelewski says both the Pubic Utilities and Regulatory Authority and a consultant hired by his office are investigating the costs. He says a final determination should occur by the end of March.
The Advocacy Director of CT A-A-R-P, John Erlinghauser, says the comments by the CEO are over the top, given the poor performance responding to the storm. Some customers lacked power for nearly two weeks.
Additionally, Erlinghauser says people are suffering from the pandemic and can't afford the additional burden.
