Meriden housing designated for homeless veterans

Hanover Place will feature nine energy-efficient units.

A New Meriden Development is Designated for Homeless Veterans

(Meriden, Conn.-WTIC) Governor Ned Lamont and state Housing Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno joined Meriden officials in celebrating a development designated for homeless veterans, funded by the state.

Hanover Place features nine units of one and two bedroom apartments. The Connecticut Department of Housing provided $1.65 million dollars.

"With more than a half-million americans experiencing homelessness every single day as we live and breathe, its important to note that one in five of homeless males are veterans.  This housing is needed. Although it's nine units in the city, I'd like to say to the veterans welcome home," said Meriden Mayor  Keven Scarpati.

Housing Commissioner Mosquera-Bruno noted the state is busy, "We have  42 hundred units under construction, with 175 million in state investment and  913 million dollars in private investment."

Governor Lamont praised Meriden as a real leader in housing. To the veterans he said, "But rather than tip a hat and say thank you for your incredible service to our country, this is a tangible reflection of the respect that we hold for our veterans and making sure that you can afford to be in the community where you grew up and the country that you fought for"

The units are heated through ten geo-thermal wells and solar integrated roofing panels.
