WATERFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—A new COVID Recovery Facility (CRF) is opening at Greentree Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waterford to serve the southeastern region of Connecticut.

The State Department of Public Health announced Friday that a consent order was executed to open a new CRF at the center with 30 beds to offer nursing-level convalescent care for COVID-positive patients.

Greentree Manor will be the fifth CRF in the state, bringing the statewide total capacity to 337 beds. According to public health officials, there is capability to expand as needed to deal with any surges in cases or hospitalizations.

Ryders Management will be operating the Greentree Manor CRF. The facility is expected to begin admitting its first patients next week.

The other CRF locations include Westfield in Meriden with 90 beds, Quinnipiac Valley in Wallingford with 32 beds, Riverside in East Hartford with 89 beds and the Torrington CRF in Torrington with 96 beds.

Governor Ned Lamont launched CRFs during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic to help free up hospital beds by discharging patients who are still COVID-positive but do not need hospital-level care.
