(NEW HAVEN, CONN. WTIC)-Governor Ned Lamont joined other state and city officials and stakeholders, celebrating an increase this legislative session of the Earned Income Tax Credit.

The rate for low to moderate income working individuals and families will increase from 23-to 30-percent.  An additional 40-million will be  delivered to the nearly 195-thousand households that are eligible, for a total of 158-milllion.

Governor Lamont said at the New Haven press conference before Junta for Progressive Action that "work out to pay enough to have a decent standard of living, you can take of your kids, they can go to a good  school and they can prosper going forward. We tried to do that from the very beginning."

Junta for Progressive Action members and the city of New Haven are two of the larger recipients of the EITC.

Senate President Martin Looney says with the EITC and the minimum wage increase "we are sending a clear message to the people in Connecticut that we are committed to making our state more affordable for you and your family."

For a family with two qualifying children, the increase means a yearly increase of  462 dollars.
