(HARTFORD, CONN. WTIC)- as Ida batters Connecticut with possible record-setting rain today and tomorrow, the Department of Energy and Protection's Dam Safety Program is prepared, an official said.
Assistant Director Chuck Lee says a staff of about 15 monitors activity to ensure spillways are not blocked and are functioning correctly.
The state owns three hundred dams. Four thousand dams are owned privately, Lee said.
Further he says the owners of private dams have emergency action plans on file with the state, in case they need assistance. That's also in case they have to move equipment from any flood-prone areas.
Lee says his department has gone through this before, especially with heavy rains in July, particularly in Northeastern Connecticut and with tropical storm Henri.
