(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-The legislature's Public Health Committee, for the first time, has approved sending the aid-in-dying measure out of committee.
The vote was 24-9.
Various lawmakers call the vote gut-wrenching. State Senator Heather Somers supports moving the measure forward in the legislative process. But she admits it needs a great deal of work.
Under protocols, a severely ill person would be allowed to take a prescription to end their life.
On February 26th, lawmakers heard more than 15 hours of testimony.
