(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-With a graying Connecticut population and one in five providing support, Lt. Governor Susan Bysciewicz organized a roundtable offering resources to state residents that provide caregiving.
Bysciewicz says nationwide, 53-million American adults provide care, increased from 43-million ten years ago. She said 53-70-percent of the care-givers are women, many dropping out of the workforce to provide assistance.
Advocates from Connecticut A-A-R-P, Areas on Aging and Caregiver Homes of Connecticut offered advice and resources providing assistance.
Ross Davis of Caregiver Homes runs the Adult Family Living Program. It offers coaching from trained nurses and social workers, providing emotional support and health education. It also offers financial support through stipends, for as many as three living in the residence.
Both the Area on Aging and AARP say information can be found on their websites.
