(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-The cumulative effect of the heat wave blasting Connecticut has increased the number of calls for emergency road side service.
Triple A Hartford says they responded to more than one-thousand calls on Monday, with half of the vehicles requiring a tow. Spokesperson Amy Parmenter says the average battery lasts three to five years and drivers should be proactive when it comes to maintenance.
Parmenter also suggests that drivers maintain a summer emergency kit, including jumper cables, first aid kit, water and medications, placing it in your trunk.
Parmenter, on a more serious note, reminds drivers not to leave a child alone in a hot vehicle. She says during the pandemic the number of children dying in hot cars nationwide was cut in half, comparted to the two previous years. Parmenter offers this advice; leave a wallet or phone in the back seat as a reminder to remember your little lived one.
Temperature in a car increases 20 degrees in ten minutes.
