(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-The state of Connecticut has launched a new health information exchange known as Connie.
It allows the electronic sharing of patients' medical information. The exchange has been years in the making.
Patients have the ability to opt out of the program, but officials say it is safe, secure and technologically advanced.
44 health organizations have already signed onto the exchange, including Yale New Haven Health, Hartford Healthcare and Pro-Health Physicians.
Office of Healthcare Strategy Executive Director Vicki Veltri says the exchange will improve patient care by providing the best treatment reducing duplication, and addressing healthcare disparities.
Dr. Joe Carranta, the President and CEO of the Community Health Group says it will reduce the time Doctors spend tracking records, allowing more time to be spent with patients.
