(Willimantic, CT/WTIC) - Two teens are lucky after their car plunged into the rain-swollen Williamntic River late last night.
Willimantic Fire Chief Mark Scrivener says it was around 10:30 when the car in which the 19-year olds were in hydroplaned, slid off the road through a fence at Bridge and Mountain Streets and plunged down a 15-foot embankment into the rushing waters.
Scrivener says they kicked open the driver's side door and climbed atop the car's roof.
From there, Scrivener says the teens grabbed on to some branches and pulled themselves on to the embankment.
No injuries were reported.
Scrivener says they're still searching for the vehicle that was swept down river.
