Thousands of vaccination appointments cancelled during Connecticut's two-day nor'easter are being rescheduled and facilities are being expanded, even as concerns linger about sporadic supply shortages.
One major provider still expects to fulfill most of the postponed appointments this week.
Community Health Center (CHC) operates the state's mass vaccination site in East Hartford. CHC Vice President of Communications Leslie Gianelli says once the forecast came out, the group was contacting patients to reschedule.
"We were definitely highly proactive because we know people are very eager to get their vaccinations, and we didn't want to disappoint them," said Gianelli, "but we also knew that it wasn't going to be safe to be on the roads... so rebooking was the only way to make sure that everyone could get their vaccinations on a timely basis."
As the East Hartford site resumes seeing about 1,500 customers per day, a number that's expected to increase, CHC is ready to open two more mass vaccination sites: Stamford opens Wednesday, Middletown on Thursday.
The major pharmacy chains are also preparing to expand the vaccines' reach. CVS has announced it will be vaccinating patients at twelve stores in Connecticut, starting Feb. 11.
The openings come amid concern about sporadic shortages in the state's vaccine supply. Manchester Memorial and Rockville General hospitals have cancelled vaccinations scheduled for Thurs., Feb. 4 and beyond. It's considered a temporary pause until the supply is replenished.
