
(Storrs, Conn./WTIC) - A pair of UConn coaches have seen their contracts extended.
Athletic Director David Benedict says the university is extending women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma and men's hockey coach Mike Cavanaugh each for five years.
Auriemma's contract is retroactive to April of last year and runs through 2025.
He will be paid a $600,000 base salary.
Additional compensation for speaking, consulting and media obligations bring the the deal to $2.8 million annually can be extended two additional one-year periods by mutual agreeement.
As for Cavanaugh, he receives a $360,000 base salary and a $1.9 million total pact.
Auriemma has led Huskies women's hoops for 36 years; Cavanaugh has guided the hockey team through its transition to Hockey East.
