Hartford, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A strike was averted today between one state provider and the union representing group home and day program workers.
About 300 workers with Whole Life, Inc. were set to walk off the job.
Now, those with New England Health Care Employees Union District 1199 will see pay rates starting at $16.50 an hour, increasing to $17.25 an hour next year.
The pact is retroactive from last July and runs through March 2023.
Union President Rob Baril said it's a historic deal in helping to improve the lives of working class caregivers, particularly Black and Latino employees.
Last week, the union settled with Network, Inc.
However, deals still need to be reached with Sunrise and Alternative Services which have strike deadlines of next Tuesday, impacting 160 and 100 workers respectively.
