(Wolcott, Conn./WTIC) - Police say two juveniles are in custody following an early morning vandalism spree at the town's senior center.

Police Chief Ed Stephens says officers and fire personnel answering a fire alarm encountered the destruction just before 3:30 a.m.

Stephens says the vandals broke doors, threw food all over the place and trashed the library, destroying computers and books.

The chief also says they sprayed fire extinguishers inside the center.

Stephens says when the two were finished with their rampage, they stole and later crashed a car on Wolcott Road.  There were no injuries.

The suspects face larceny, burglary, criminal mischief and attempted arson charges, the latter for leaving a gas stove on that could have sparked a fire.

The senior center will remain closed until further notice.
