Touting the promise of the city's new walk-up clinics, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin and Gov. Ned Lamont appeared at Tuesday's busy event outside the renovated Swift Factory in the Northeast neighborhood, where about 250 city residents received Johnson & Johnson's single-dose COVID vaccine.
Bronin says the goal of the clinics is simple: to increase Hartford's vaccination rate by making the shots easily available.
"We want to prioritize the vaccines that we get," says Bronin, "to make sure that we are delivering them in a way that has the fewest barriers possible. What we've discovered is that the easiest way to do that is with, literally, no barriers, to simply open a clinic and say, 'if you are eligible to get the vaccine, get the vaccine today.'"
The program continues at 2 pm Wednesday at the Free Center, 460 New Britain Ave. in Hartford.
Gov. Lamont agrees with the mayor that residents shouldn't 'wait and see' about getting their shots, saying, "Nothing left to wait and see. We've had 100 million vaccinations going on eight months. It's been safe, it's effective and it's working."
