WEST HAVEN, Connecticut
Following numerous attempts to redevelop an abandoned high school, it appears West Haven is finally on track to come up with a plan to create a mixed used apartment building from the former Stiles School on Main street.

The building has become some what of an eye sore over the years. The city has reportedly accepted a developers proposal to build more than two dozen apartments with the possibility of retail spacee. The project could reportedly bring in nearly a half million dollars in revenue.

Mayor Dorinda Borer spoke to WVIT NBC Connecticut about the project.

She said “what we like about this proposal is that it's preserving the existing building and remodeling it, where all the other proposals were to knock down the building,”

Borer said previous administrations have tried to redevelop the building but for different reasons, those proposals have fallen through.

“She says with a project of this size there is always environmental concerns, so we had an environmental assessment completed, and any developer that's going forward is also going to do its due diligence, that could be one of the reasons that it fell apart in the past."

City officials say the building is near the West Haven train station, which they hope will make it attractive for commuters.
