(New Haven, Conn./WTIC) - The first mosquitoes to test positive for the west nile virus have been found in Milford.
The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven reports they were trapped June 21.
CAES began its trapping and testing program earlier this month.
Dr. Phil Armstrong says the detection is earlier than normal this year and the buildup of virus is expected to continue until September.
In the meantime, citizens are urged to take precautions when out during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active--wearing long clothing, using insect repellent, and removing any standing water that could provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
