The Yankees were all smiles after wrapping up a crucial 5-1 road trip with a big win over the Blue Jays on Thursday night, but some uncertainty hangs over the status of DJ LeMahieu.
The veteran infielder was removed from Wednesday’s game after the top of the sixth inning with hip soreness, the same ailment that kept him out of the lineup in Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters earlier in the week that LeMahieu has been dealing with an issue in the hip/groin area for weeks, and it was still bothering LeMahieu enough to be removed from a pivotal game on Thursday.

“Enough to get him out of there,” Boone said. “I think it was affecting him more at the plate tonight. Got him out of there, hopefully like last time, having some treatment and just kind of managing it as best we can, we’ll see if he’s back out there tomorrow or not.”
LeMahieu was 0-for-3 with a strikeout on Thursday, and is batting .286 in September. It has been an overall disappointing season at the plate, as the reigning batting champion is batting just .268 with a 711 OPS. But his infield versatility is still vital to the Yankees, who will hope to have him back at some point during the final series of the regular season, where the Yanks will be looking to lock up the top Wild Card spot.
