Aaron Boone 'very encouraged' in progress by Jonathan Loaisiga's rehab

The Yankees added Luis Severino to the roster on Monday and another reinforcement could be on its way.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters before Tuesday’s game against the Texas Rangers that he was “very encouraged” by Jonathan Loaisiga's latest step in his rehab process as he looks to return from a shoulder injury.

“Very encouraged. I haven’t talked to the trainers afterwards but watched most of his catch play and I thought he looked really good,” Boone said. “Throwing free and easy. So another good step for him.”

Before Loaisiga is cleared to return from the IL he likely needs to throw a bullpen session and possibly face live batters. Boone did not have a definitive timeline on when he could return.

“We’ll see,” Boone said. “That’s something we’ll watch as we go. Obviously, the trainers here will have a big role in that and deciding how many of those he needs, how sharp they are, or how he’s recovering from those. Because he wasn’t down very long, in theory, he doesn’t need too much. But hopefully he passes those and we do get him back before the regular season ends.”
