Not surprisingly, it wasn’t a warm welcome for Aaron Hicks in his return to Yankee Stadium on Monday night.
The former Yankee outfielder heard boos from the Bronx crowd as a video tribute played on the jumbotron in center field, showing highlights that included his home run in game five of the 2019 ALCS, and his game-tying home run against the Astros last season.
The boos came down as the video concluded with the words, “Welcome Back Aaron Hicks.” The boos could also be heard when Hicks came up for his first plate appearance back in New York since being picked up by the Orioles.
Hicks was hitting just .188 when the Yankees cut ties earlier this season, but he entered Monday’s game posting an impressive .854 OPS since joining the O’s.
Hicks popped out to third base in his first at-bat.
