Aaron Hicks heard more boos on Tuesday night after striking out in the fifth inning, and cameras caught Aaron Judge, still in his first week as Yankee captain, quickly going over to his teammate to share a couple words at the bat rack.
Judge was praised by Yankee fans on social media for his leadership, trying to pick up a teammate that clearly is struggling to find his way at the plate, but he wouldn’t elaborate much on his conversation with Hicks after the game.
“We'll keep that to ourselves. It’s just being a teammate and talking to him,” Judge said. “Most of it was just asking what he saw at the plate, get his mind off some things and get a little scouting report.”
Judge also tried to keep Hicks’ early struggles in perspective, as Hicks has only made two starts so far this season, and despite struggling throughout last season, he is still capable of finding his way.
“It's early in the season. People are going to struggle,” Judge said. “If you struggle now in April or August, stuff like that happens. It’s about regrouping and moving on. You made an out, get on to the next one.”
