At the BetMGM online sportsbook, there’s far more World Series betting interest in the New York Yankees than the New York Mets. The Yankees’ ticket and handle shares are 377% and 413% percent higher, respectively.
However, those numbers were dramatically higher just five weeks ago — 574% and 616% — as interest in each team has gone in opposite directions.
On June 25, 10.9% of all BetMGM bets on the World Series winner were on the Yankees (+450), second highest of all teams. Those accounted for 11.7% of the handle, third highest.
After going 11-21 over the last five weeks, the Yankees (+650) now have 9.8% of the tickets (fourth) and 9.9% of the handle (fourth). Both shares have decreased in each of those five weeks.
The Mets (+8000), meanwhile, had 1.9% of the tickets (17th) and 1.9% of the handle (15th), on June 25.
After going 21-13, the Mets (+4000) now have 2.6% of the tickets (12th) and 2.4% of the handle (13th). Both shares have increased in three of the five weeks, and at least one share has increased in each of the five weeks.
