Boomer thanks Brian Cashman, Yankees for taking Max Fried out of NL East
Max Fried is reportedly heading to the Bronx, as the Yankees have made their first move after losing Juan Soto, bolstering their starting rotation in the process.
Per reports, the Yanks have signed the 30-year-old to an eight-year deal, $218 million deal, giving the Yanks a southpaw ace behind Gerrit Cole and forming a dynamic 1-3 in the rotation with Carlos Rodon likely slotted in as the No. 3 starter.
For Boomer Esiason, as a Mets fan, he is just happy that his team won’t have to face Fried anymore.
“I just want to say thank you to Brian Cashman. Thank you so much,” Boomer said. “He took Max Fried out of the NL East. That was very kind of you.
“Makes it a little easier for Juan Soto to live up to the numbers that we paid him.”
As for the deal itself, Boomer isn’t sure he would have committed that many years to a pitcher who has had his share of injuries and is on the cusp of turning 31 years old, but such is the current pitching market, and the Yanks had to make a move after losing an MVP candidate in the middle of the lineup.
“When I saw this I said ‘Uh oh,’” Boomer said. “Look, Max is a great pitcher - I’m not saying that he’s not - but he’s gonna be [31] in January, and they gave him eight years. This is where these guys have to make their money because of how Major League Baseball is set up, and good for Max Fried...I’m just glad he’s out of the NL East.”
