As the Yankees pitchers and catchers arrive for spring training, Boomer Esiason believes it’s the Bombers and then everybody else when it comes to the American League in 2025.
The Yanks earned a bye to the ALDS after winning the AL East in 2024, then went 7-2 in the first two rounds of the playoffs to clinch their first pennant since 2009. Boomer believes 2025 shouldn’t be much different, even after losing Juan Soto.
“They should breeze right through the American League, even with the loss of Juan Soto,” Boomer said. “I think the addition of Max Fried is gonna be great for them,
“There’s no one in the American League even remotely close to how good they are. Can the Orioles give them a run for their money? Eh, I don’t know.”
The Yanks lost Soto, but they had a busy offseason nonetheless, adding Fried as a co-ace with Gerrit Cole, Devin Williams to bolster the bullpen, and Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt to improve the team’s defense while providing a clear offensive upgrade at first base given Anthony Rizzo’s struggles over the past two seasons. Boomer believes the Yankees have brought in more than enough to remain the clear favorites to get back to the Fall Classic.
Gio agrees with his co-host.
“This team is built once again to get at least to the ALCS, most likely the World Series,” Gio said. “And improve upon the things that kept them from winning a championship last year.”
