Ceddanne Rafaela makes Red Sox's catch of the season

Who was the best Trade Deadline starting pitcher?

PHOENIX - In there was any doubt that Ceddanne Rafaela should be in the conversation for best defensive outfielder in MLB, along came the Sox's centerfielder's catch Saturday night.

With one out in the fifth inning and the Red Sox trailing, 4-1, to the host Diamondbacks, Lucas Giolito threw a 1-2 changeup to Corbin Carroll. The Arizona outfielder launched it toward the pool area in right-center field.

But just before the ball could drop over the fence, Rafaela planted his foot in the wall and propelled himself up high enough to snatch the ball for the inning's second out.

Rafaela dropped to his knees, seemingly screaming. It was unclear if he was showing his frustration for not making the catch, or was potentially injured on the play. But it was neither.

Rafaela had robbed Carroll on a 404-foot blast that would have been a home run in 25 of 30 ballparks.
