Kenley Jansen is honest about trade rumors, team direction
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Red Sox fans, you aren't alone.
It turns out that a fairly notable former Sox player is sharing some of your same frustrations.
Talking to the media at Fenway South Monday, team president Sam Kennedy revealed that Dustin Pedroia made sure the front office and ownership understood he expected a bit more aggression when it comes to player acquisition in this offseason.
"It has been an odd slow developing market," Kennedy said. "For whatever reason, every year has sort of a different sort of feel to it. And I'll tell you, last night at dinner, Raquel (Ferriera) and Bres (Craig Breslow) and AC (Alex Cora) and Eddie (Romero) and I and a few others got a FaceTime from Dustin and he reminded us who’s still out there on the market and what opportunities might be out there so we appreciate that perspective from Pedey. He was very clear about his feelings."
While Pedroia did participate as an instructor during last season's spring training, it is unclear if he will be able to make an appearances this year. The former second baseman is in the midst of coaching his young sons' youth baseball and basketball teams.
As for the Red Sox acting on Pedroia's advice, Kennedy suggested the story has yet to fully be told when it comes to building this 2024 team.
“Look, the truth is I don't know what's going to happen over the next couple of weeks," said the Sox' team president. "So I don't want to speculate and set myself up for being wrong or misguided. I'm just saying that Bres is always looking to improve the team. And so there are a lot of talented players left out there, big-name free agents, other players who are still available, so we’ll see what happens.”
