An update on Roman Anthony's injury
When Jarren Duran opened about his mental health struggles on the Netflix docuseries 'The Clubhouse' there was an acceptance that - for better or worse - the words would elicit responses and reactions. For the most part, Duran's vulnerability has been for the better, allowing many to open up about their own mental health issues.
Unfortunately, Sunday resulted in an unwanted reaction.
In the seventh inning of what would be a 13-3 win for the Red Sox, a fan at Progressive Field yelled at Duran following the outfielder's fly out, referencing the player's 2022 suicide attempt.
After assurances from the umpire that the situation would be handled, Duran could be seen staring at the fan from the top of the dugout for the remainder of the half-inning.
Following Rafael Devers' out, Duran engaged the fan, ultimately being held back by umpire Stu Scheurwater, some Red Sox coaches and teammate Ceddanne Rafaela. The fan ultimately ran toward the concourse after many around him identified him as the origin of the comment.
After the game, both Duran and the Guardians organization addresses the situation.
The incident was one of the few negatives in what had been in overly positive weekend for Duran, who went 4-for-6 Sunday after executing a memorable straight steal of home the day before.
