The subject of first-round picks was in the news Friday thanks to the reported promotion of Nolan Schanuel, a former collegiate first baseman who was drafted with the 11th overall pick by the Angels just about a month ago.
Unfortunately for the Red Sox, their first-round pick news Friday wasn't as optimistic.
According to a team source, the injury suffered by the Red Sox' 2022 first-round selection - Mikey Romero - is the same lower back issue that kept him out of action until June. There is no timetable for Romero's return.
Romero had just recently been promoted to Single-A Greenville after hitting .217 with a .592 OPS in 23 games with Salem.

Romero was drafted with the 24th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. One player from that first round - Angels shortstop Zach Neto - has reached the majors.
