The Yankees, coming off one of their worst losses of the season after spoiling a chance to win a crucial four-game set with the Orioles, are giving BT no hope that they are going to turn things around and do anything more than tread water through the rest of the season.
“They are afloat…and you have to respect that,” BT said. “But if they want a chance to do anything, they have to make a trade, and it has to be impactful.
“How many times can you have C-level players carry the weight for you? It’s not sustainable.”
BT knows he sounds like a broken record, but when looking at the roster and how unprepared it was to handle injuries that shouldn’t have come as a surprise, the onus has to fall on the general manager.
“Honestly, Brian Cashman, it’s amazing the freedom this guy has, and what he’s done with the money he’s been given to spend,” BT said.
“They are, in a lot of ways, a disorganized, unmitigated mess. They don’t have enough guys in their prime, the don’t have enough guys that are ascending, the contracts are all out of whack. They don’t have great defensive positional versatility.”
