The Yankees have broken BT to a point where he is now hoping that the team’s slide continues all the way through the end of the regular season.
Forget waiting on the team to wake up. He’d rather them stay dormant so the owner himself will have to wake up and make the changes BT believes are necessary to get the franchise back on the right track.
“I want the Yankees to lose,” BT said. “I want the Yankees to implode, and I want this to be painful. I don’t want a little cut. I want them to hemorrhage, to bleed out the rest of the season. in my opinion, that is the only thing that’s gonna shake up the owner, who is in a coma.
“If the Yankees win 88 games and get the third Wild Card and win a game, that will justify bringing back the manager, who’s got to go, and the general manager, who’s got to go.”
Sal strongly disagreed with that mentality, especially for a team still 3.5 games back of a playoff spot with two months to go, but BT could care less about squeaking into the playoffs at this point. That would only delay what should be done immediately.
“I don’t want the Wild Card,” BT said. “I want pain. I’m begging for pain.”
