BT will believe in Yankees future once they trade Giancarlo Stanton

BT is not high at all on the Yankees lately, convinced that the Mets are in a better position to build a winner following their fire sale at the trade deadline.

But, BT says it will only take one move by the Yanks to make him a believer that things are heading in the right direction.

That move: trading Giancarlo Stanton and eating the bulk of his remaining contract.

“Stanton would be the one massive financial concession, which I believe could have been offset by trading Gleyber Torres, because he is under contract next season,” BT said. “Some teams would want that. If you just stepped up to the plate and made the biggest problem disappear, which is Giancarlo Stanton…the biggest symbol of the Yankees problems…then I would see some light.

“By eating, let’s say 65-70 percent of his contract, then you trade Bader, you trade Torres, and you play kids. That way, you’re not paying them as much…how can they not see this?”

Stanton has been the team’s top offensive performer in the playoffs since 2020, but his constant injuries have limited his availability in the regular season, not to mention his struggles when healthy over the past two years. The oft-injured slugger is batting .203 this year, and is under contract through 2027.

“It draws my ire, because everything else is salvageable,” BT said. “[Josh] Donaldson is gone, you can trade Torres…but that’s the guy who changes everything that they could do, and things that they probably wanted to do and couldn’t do in the past because of his presence. He hurts you now, he hurts you tomorrow, and he hurt you yesterday.”
