The Yankees made their next Plan B move of the offseason, acquiring Cody Bellinger in a trade for the Cubs, who essentially moved the NL MVP in a salary dump.
The Yanks only had to give up Cody Poteet to get Bellinger, who helps the team’s defensive versatility and lineup balance after losing Juan Soto.
While many fans and analysts have given the Yankees kudos for their pivot after Soto signed with the Mets, BT says the backup plan is starting to look even better than what the primary objective was with Soto.
“Everybody is now talking about this very good, smart, strong pivot to Plan B by Brian Cashman. Plan B is gonna be better than Plan A, if they do more,” BT said. “And I think they will.”
The “more” that BT wants to see is the move he has been clamoring for since the offseason started, which is to sign Christian Walker, who would bring a massive offensive upgrade at first base while also providing Gold Glove defense.
“I need that thumper at first base…I need Walker at first base,” BT said. “I don’t want Teoscar Hernandez or Pete Alonso. You know I don’t love [Alex] Bregman with a seven-year deal at third base. But you get a legitimate thumper at first base, you go in on paper, the Yankees will have three of the top 20 stating pitchers in baseball…the back end of the bullpen will be top three, could be No. 1. You have the reigning MVP and defensive versatility.
“The things that plagued the Yankees last year are slowly disappearing. I love what the Yankees are doing.”
Still, the job isn’t finished, and while the Yanks are expected to be in on Walker, BT won’t complete his standing ovation for Cashman until the deal is done.
“As pumped as I am, this better not be it,” BT said. “I don’t want to see Ben Rice at first base…finish the job.”
