Aaron Boone’s latest DJ LeMahieu comments on the Talkin’ Yanks show have C-Mac convinced that the DJ LeMahieu prognosis is much worse than initially thought, and the third base position could be a big hole on the roster for some time to start the season.
“He sounds so pessimistic,” C-Mac said. “He even said ‘There was a time in my career where I hurt something, I took X-rays and it came back negative, and a couple weeks later when the swelling went down, they retook it and there was a fracture.’
“Something happened over the last couple days, because the news was very good early on. He’s walking better, there’s footage of him in the infield taking ground balls, and now, it’s come to a screeching halt in the last couple of days.”
LeMahieu hurt that same foot in 2022 and tried to play through it, but it sapped his power and production at the plate. Once again, he will be dealing with injury, and C-Mac doesn’t like what that means for the rest of the roster.
“I’m concerned because of his track record,” C-Mac said. “It’s the same foot…on top of the foot, which scares me, because there’s a million bones there. I’m just concerned because he was a big piece of their depth. He was also the backup first baseman to Anthony Rizzo.
“Listening to Aaron Boone speak, they better go out here and get someone, because it sounds like he is very pessimistic about DJ LeMahieu.”
