Both Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes have made their spring training debuts for the Yankees, and both showed reasons to be optimistic about bouncing back in 2024.
C-Mac says a rebound for both lefties is desperately needed for the Bombers, as they are arguably the two most important players on the 2024 roster.
“You’ve seen Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes…you could argue two of the most important players on the team this year,” C-Mac said. “Without question, the biggest question mark and weakest link of this team is the starting rotation…it’s Gerrit Cole, and you hope everyone else stays healthy and pitches well.
“If you told me there’s gonna be a pitcher on the Yankee staff is gonna give you six innings and two runs, that performance for a while was almost as likely for Nestor as it was for Gerrit Cole.”
Sure, the Yankees have more impact players like Cole, Aaron Judge, and Juan Soto, but the Yankees know what they get from those stars when healthy. They really need Cortes and Cole to rediscover the best versions of themselves to make the rotation championship worthy.
“If those two guys can anchor this rotation and be healthy and be the former versions of themselves…now you’re looking at a dominant team,” C-Mac said. “You’re looking at, without question, a World Series contender.”
