C-Mac: 'No faith' that DJ LeMahieu will be factor for Yankees in 2024

DJ LeMahieu exited the first game of his rehab assignment on Tuesday with foot soreness, in what is another setback in his recovery from a foot fracture suffered in spring training.

This latest setback confirms C-Mac’s belief that the Yankees, and their fans, should operate under the assumption that LeMahieu will not be a factor in 2024.

“I cannot count on DJ LeMahieu. I have no faith,” C-Mac said. “I’m assuming he’ll come back eventually, but we’ve seen him try to play through nagging foot injuries. I have no faith that DJ LeMahieu will give them anything this year.

“We know how good DJ LeMahieu can be when he is healthy, but I was expecting a bounceback year…now I don’t even know when he’s coming back.”

LeMahieu battled foot issues in recent years to frustrating results. He finally was feeling more like his old self in the second half of last season, and the numbers showed it. Many felt with a full, healthy offseason leading into 2024, LeMahieu would get closer to the MVP candidate that he was when he first signed with the Yankees, but now, C-Mac expects a completely lost season for the aging infielder.

“The Yankees have to view it this way, and the fans should view it this way: DJ LeMahieu is not going to be a factor for the Yankees this season,” C-Mac said.
