C-Mac: 'Ridiculous' that Gary Sheffield isn't a Hall of Famer

Gary Sheffield fell short of the necessary 75 percent of the votes to get into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday night, in what was the 10th and final year of his eligibility.

C-Mac says Sheffield not being enshrined among the best in the history of the sport is a travesty.

“Adrian Beltre, Todd Helton, and Joe Mauer…I think all of them belong in the Hall of Fame on some level…but I would argue to say…who would you rather face?” C-Mac said. “Bases loaded, two outs, bottom of the ninth, who do you want to come up for the other team? would you rather pitch to Adrian Beltre or Gary Sheffield? It’s not even close. Gary Sheffield was the far more dangerous hitter.”

Suspected steroid use seems to be the only thing keeping Sheffield out of the Hall, as his career accomplishments are undeniable. He finished his career with 509 home runs, was a nine-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger, won a batting title and a World Series, and was a career .292 hitter.

C-Mac says the steroid suspicions shouldn’t keep him out of Cooperstown.

“He tested positive on what was supposed to be an anonymous list that Big Papi was tested on,” C-Mac said. And that’s all we have is reports.

“Gary Sheffield was as dangerous a hitter as they come. More so than the guys on the list today.”
