C-Mac sick of Carlos Rodon 'moping,' crumbling at first sign of adversity

The Yankees grabbed a quick 1-0 lead against the Rays in the first inning on Tuesday night, and it evaporated as quickly as it materialized thanks to Carlos Rodon surrendering four runs in a nightmare bottom of the frame.

The eventual 5-3 loss meant that first-inning implosion by Rodon was the difference in the game, and C-Mac’s frustration with the $162 million lefty continues to grow.

“When this team is playing the way it’s playing…you cannot take the lead and have it evaporate in one inning against one of the worst hitting teams in baseball,” C-Mac said. “He needed to put up a zero in that inning. This guy…the problem with him right now, is he just doesn’t have it in him. That first hit of the game on a little looping line drive that is just over the head of Gleyber Torres, you know from that moment on that he’s gonna have a miserable inning, because he cannot overcome the slightest bit of an issue. It’s absolutely mind-numbing.”

The frustration goes beyond the performance itself, as C-Mac is growing tired of Rodon’s show of emotions on the mound and in the dugout, as it hardly inspires confidence that he will be able to pull himself out of his current funk, which has now spanned five straight starts.

“I hate the moping,” C-Mac said. “It feels like they’re down in the dumps, and nobody embodies it more than Carlos Rodon.”
