C-Mac: No way a free suite was turning point in Yankees negotiations with Juan Soto

Chris McMonigle says the Yankees deserve their share of criticism for not offering more money to Juan Soto, as the Mets’ reported offer with the opt-out clause could take it to over $40 million more than the Yankees’ reported final offer.

But, amid reports by the New York Post that Soto was denied a free suite at Yankee Stadium, C-Mac says there is no way that was any kind of deciding factor for Soto, even with Steve Cohen reportedly granting Soto a free suite at Citi Field for his family.

“I think it was much more about the extra $90 million dollars and not the suite that he can afford,” C-Mac said, noting the Mets’ signing bonus to Soto as well.

“Someone you’re giving $760 million to, if he’s that much of a family guy, he can buy his own suite. Do I think it was the reason? No.”

The Yankees reportedly held firm on not giving Soto a suite for free, as current and previous stars like Aaron Judge and Derek Jeter had to pay for theirs as well. But C-Mac doesn’t see that being any kind of dealbreaker for Soto, as it seems he simply wanted to go where he would be paid the most money.

“If that is honestly the difference between Juan Soto being a Yankee or a Met, then the Yankees should be kicking themselves,” C-Mac said. “But I don’t think that it is.”
