Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, and Dylan Cease are all still out there to sign or trade for, but C-Mac says the Yankees won’t be acquiring any of them before Opening Day.
“The Yankees are done acquiring starting pitching,” C-Mac said. “They’re not getting a big-time starting pitcher. They’re not gonna be able to trade for one. I think Brian Cashman has made that clear.
“Blake Snell, I would say the top free agent pitcher available at the moment…the news out there is that the Yankees offered him a six-year, $150 million contract, and the other news is that that is the only firm contract offer that he has been given, period…because of that, people have the misguided belief that that somehow indicates that he can work his way back to the Yankees. Nothing can be further from the truth.”
Snell will get more than $150 million, and C-Mac says it won’t be the Yankees to give it to him. The Yanks need to do more, but C-Mac doesn’t believe they will.
“The Yankees moved on…he wants more,” C-Mac said. “The minute he said no, the Yankees told themselves, and Steinbrenner probably told Cashman, ‘That’s it. I’m not giving that guy another dollar.’ So they turned to Marcus Stroman.
“The Yankees didn’t go all in the way they should have. They should have added a starting pitcher that was a clear No. 2. They didn’t. They’re relying too much on Carlos Rodon.”
