A caller asked C-Mac if he would part with Spencer Jones and Ben Rice for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and after brief consideration, he said he would pull the trigger on that blockbuster deal.
“Yeah, I probably would. I probably would,” C-Mac said. “And he’s hot right now. He’s been killing it lately. On the season, he has 18 home runs, 62 RBI, he’s hitting .296 with an .852 OPS. Those are All-Star caliber numbers…you would just hope the slugging would be a bit higher. But over the last 30 games, he’s hitting .322 with an OPS over 1.000.
“I don’t usually do this. I don’t usually pat myself on the back…I talked about them trading for Vlad the day they traded [Cavan] Biggio away a month ago.”
C-Mac indeed did campaign for the Yanks to make a splash for Guerrero weeks ago, and now, with the Bombers clearly in need of more offense, he says it makes more sense than ever, especially with Toronto seemingly going nowhere this season.
“Think about him in the middle of this lineup,” C-Mac said. “If you traded Spencer Jones for Vladimir Guerrero, you could still go out there and get Jonathan India for pitching prospects…now you have a third baseman and a first baseman.”
