Tiki & Tierney: Can 'mechanical mess' Anthony Volpe fix his swing without a demotion?

Scouts that have followed Anthony Volpe’s career told MLB insider Jon Heyman that they have noticed some troubling changes in the rookie shortstop’s swing.

Tiki and Tierney both agree that the 22-year-old’s swing is off, and while the Yankees remain committed to Volpe in the major leagues, that conversation might need to change if Volpe can’t correct his swing.

“He’s a mechanical mess right now,” BT said. “It’s June 21. Are we gonna be talking about this on July 21 if this continues?”

Tiki says that if it continues, Volpe may need to be sent down, as a swing change is not easy to do in the middle of a season at the major league level, especially for a rookie.

“I don’t want to champion sending Anthony Volpe down to the minors, but at some point, they might have to,” Tiki said. “If in a month, you’re still having these same issues…with his swing, do you send him down just so he can fix it? If there’s something actually wrong with his swing, don’t you send him down?”
