Carlos Rodon was in hot water on Wednesday night after blowing a kiss to an angry Yankee fan while walking off the field, and Boomer says Rodon should take a page out of the book of two other high-priced New York pitchers that haven’t lived up to their contracts.

“Say what you want about Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, it hasn’t been great for them, it’s been an up and down year,” Boomer said. “They stand in front of their locker, they don’t do anything demonstrative coming off the field, they don’t give the finger or a ‘bye bye’ sign to the fans or any of that crap. They go about their business and their true professionals. That, you can at least say.

“I think Carlos Rodon probably needs to take a page out of their book.”

Boomer believes Rodon took a step in that direction with his comments about the incident after the game, when he acknowledged that the fans have a right to be angry, and it would have been best to give no reaction at all.

“I’m glad to hear what he said after the game, for sure,” Boomer said. “And I don’t necessarily know the extent of his injury…but he’s just not sharp. He’s just not there yet.”
