As announced on today’s Evan and Tiki show, Craig Carton will be in the broadcast booth announcing a full Yankees series alongside Suzyn Waldman next month.
Craig, who came up announcing games in Buffalo along with a few other pro games, revealed the news to Evan and Tiki that he will be behind the mic for when the Yanks host the defending World Series champion Rangers for three games starting on Friday, Aug. 9.
“The New York Yankees called me - and I confirmed this wasn’t some kind of prank with WFAN - I have been asked - and this is one of the great asks of my career and my lifetime,” Craig said. “The Yankees have asked me to do the radio play=by-=play of the Yankees/Rangers series Aug. 9-11, and I’ll be doing those three games with Suzyn Waldman.
“This is not a bit…the Yankees requested it. we had a conversation with the architect, they have blessed it as well. I have the great honor of a lifetime, having done a couple Brooklyn Nets games, having done an Islander game…it’s really one of the craziest, out-of-left-field asks, and I said yes in a second.”
It was not something Craig imagined doing at this point in his career, but when the Yanks called, he was immediately hit with chills thinking about being on the call in the Bronx, where legends like John Sterling called the action.
“It’s the New York Yankees, man. It’s the legend of John Sterling and Mel Allen,” Craig said. “I’ll be sitting in a chair that only a couple people in the history of the franchise can say they called a Yankee game on the radio.”
