Dave Sims talks with Boomer and Gio about coming home to dream-come-true Yankees gig

Dave Sims, the new radio voice of the Yankees, joined Boomer and Gio in studio on Friday morning to talk about coming home for his new gig, which will begin on Opening Day in 2025.

Sims, a former WFAN host, couldn’t be happier to be back in the Big Apple and calling games for one of the most iconic sports teams on the planet.

“This is one of the big moments of my life,” Sims said. “To come back home, but to do the Yankees? Forget about it. It’s tremendous. Couldn’t be more excited.

“It’s an absolute thrill to come back here. You talk about the Yankees, it’s the brand of brands in sports...it’s one of the top three logos, one of the top brands in the world.”

Sims will be paired up with Suzyn Waldman in the booth, someone he has been friends with since their days covering New York sports back in the late 80s, and now, they will be together again as the Yankees look to build upon their first pennant-winning season in 15 years.

“We text each other during games and everything,” Sims said of his relationship with Suzyn. “We go way back...going back to ’87.”

Boomer wanted to know if Sims would have any problem criticizing the Yankees when necessary, as expectations are always sky-high in the Bronx, even coming off of a World Series appearance. Given Dave’s background in broadcasting, he says it won’t be too difficult to be honest in his assessment of what is unfolding on the field.

“In Seattle, I had two or three 100-loss seasons, and a number of 90-win seasons,” Sims said. “You’re not nuking anybody, but you’re telling the truth.”

But overall, Sims is arriving back home with the Yankees coming off their most successful season in 15 years, and he is beyond elated to follow the legendary John Sterling and be behind the microphone for what fans hope will be a memorable era of Yankee baseball.

“I’m still trying to sort it out,” Sims said. “It’s like ‘Woah, this is really happening!’”
