Fox Sports revealed during its Super Bowl coverage that Derek Jeter would be the network’s newest MLB analyst, fueling social media with anticipation about Jeter being reunited with former teammate/frenemy Alex Rodriguez, who is also an analyst for Fox’s MLB coverage.
But, as it turns out, Jeter won’t be paired with Rodriguez, or part of Fox’s coverage this season, nearly as much as some thought when he was introduced at the Super Bowl.
According to the New York Post, Jeter’s in-studio workload for MLB on Fox this season will only include the London Series in June, featuring the Cardinals and the Cubs, the All-Star Game in July, and the playoffs in October.
Fox has the rights to one of the London Series games (ESPN has the other), so Jeter will only be seen twice during the regular season, in London and in Seattle for the Midsummer Classic.
It won’t be much time for Jeter to find his broadcast footing before the playoffs, but if his broadcasting performance is anything like his play on the field, he will thrive in October.
